Doting Parent: To Amanda, though he does next-to-nothing to help his daughter when Katheryn forces her to attend law school early in Season 1, and later doesn't do anything about Amanda's Sanity Slippage despite his wife's insistence that Amanda be committed.Control Freak: Jim is very bossy and goes to insane lengths to get his way.Childhood Friend Romance: The "romance" part is extremely debatable, but he and Katheryn knew each other since they were teenagers.And in the Season 3 finale "When the Chickens Come Home," he finally gets arrested for covering up Wyatt's vehicular manslaughter just moments after announcing he's going to press ahead with running for Governor. In "Dianna Winchil," his gubernatorial campaign goes down in flames after it comes out that he fathered two illegitimate sons with Celine. A few episodes later ("Oscar"), he gets told off by Hanna, his employee, after he yells at her for hiring a cleaning crew to clear out Amanda's room and then ends up being comforted by Hanna as he breaks down sobbing over Amanda's death. Jim finally returns home to face the truth about Amanda's death, as well as the antagonistic behavior of his wife and son. THEN he ends up on the wrong side of town and is forced to hitch a ride with a kind old woman who reveals that his daughter committed suicide. He's held captive and tortured by Candace, forced to transfer 7.4 million dollars to her bank account before finally being let go.only to then be forced to take a bus to his campaign office. Break the Haughty: Jim is subjected to this starting in Season 3.They eventually decide to divorce midway through Season 3, though they have yet to actually act on this. Out in public, Jim and Katheryn pretend to be loving and close, but in private, they trade nasty insults and make it very clear that they loathe each other. In the Season 3 finale "When the Chickens Come Home," he gets arrested, along with Katheryn, David, and Veronica, for covering up Wyatt's vehicular manslaughter.He then spends the first few episodes of Season 3 tied to a chair in a dingy basement, where Candace makes him pose for provocative photos with transsexuals dressed in bondage gear, subjects him to Electric Torture, and forces him to transfer 7.4 million dollars to her bank account. In the Season 2 finale "Checkmate," Jim gets beat up by Quincy and is later kidnapped by Warlock and his crew at Candace's behest.Archnemesis Dad: To Wyatt, as of "In Crisis," after they get into a fistfight and Wyatt decides to reveal Jim and Veronica's cover-up of Lizzie's death to Sallison.And Starring: John Schneider is credited last with the annotation "And.".In "Enough is Enough," he even admits to Wyatt that he has an uncontrollable desire for sex, stating that, whenever he sees a woman, he has to have her. All Men Are Perverts: He certainly can't keep it in his pants.He also doesn't treat Carlos, one of his illegitimate sons with Celine, any better he rejects him outright when Carlos confronts him in "Norman Hewens" and even refers to him as "that bastard" while denigrating Celine in "Sheep's Clothing.".Abusive Dad: Jim is verbally, psychologically, and physically abusive towards Wyatt.The power-hungry and irascible patriarch of the Cryer family, Jim is an unscrupulous criminal courts judge who has his eye set on becoming Governor of Georgia.
